Senator Nickel joins environmental groups on the campus of NC State to rally for a 100% clean energy goal by 2050.
RALEIGH, NC – On Monday, Senator Nickel was invited to speak at an Earth Day rally on the campus of NC State.
Senator Nickel said, “In the Senate I’ve sponsored legislation that would get North Carolina to 100% renewable energy by 2050. The political will to act is a renewable resource.”
Senator Wiley Nickel is sponsoring Senate Bill 513; the “State Clean Energy Goal for 2050”. This bill follows the example set by world leaders in the Paris Agreement and acknowledges that climate change is both real, and a present threat to our world.
In addition to sponsoring legislation that would set the goal of 100% clean energy by 2050 in North Carolina, Senator Nickel also stated his opposition to SB 377 and SB 446.
Senate Bill 337 would prohibit the expansion of wind energy facilities in North Carolina. Senate Bill 446 would raise the registration fees for electric vehicles in North Carolina, making North Carolina the most expensive place to own an electric vehicle in the country.
“Let’s make every day Earth Day and redouble our efforts to fight the climate crisis.” Said Senator Nickel. “On Earth Day 2019 we can make North Carolina a leader in clean renewable energy.”
