CARY, NC – On Monday, March 25th, Senator Wiley Nickel brought Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Michael Regan to Cary for a tour of Hoganas Environment Solutions.
Hoganas, opened their North American HQ in Cary in 2017 after considering six other cities in the United States. Senator Nickel said, “Hoganas is doing cutting edge research to help keep our drinking water safe. When you can put your HQ anywhere in the United States it speaks volumes about our rapidly growing research community, innovative talent pool, and quality of life here in western Wake County.”
The Hoganas Environment Solutions research lab in Cary, NC focuses on environmental sustainability and helps to develop the patented Cleanit metal powder. This patented technology removes contaminants in ground and drinking water including Selenium, Chromium, Arsenic, heavy metals, and radionuclides.
Senator Nickel said “Hoganas is a great example of what’s right in Western Wake County. When they are fully staffed they will have over 100 people in this facility doing cutting edge research that will help produce clean drinking water for people in the United States and all over the world. These are all very high paying jobs. Cary is a major destination for research and development and we’re proud to have great companies like Hoganas setting up shop.”
Secretary Regan said, “I believe that environmental protection and economic prosperity are not mutually exclusive and this is a perfect example of that.”
The visit also included a round table discussion with developers and managers to discuss how the government and Hoganas can achieve the collective goal of a healthier and safer North Carolina. Secretary Regan said, “The government can set the rules of engagement up and let the market do what it does.”
